“That, which is the most personal, is the most creative” – says cinema director Martin Scorsese, emphasizing that authentic stories are often born from personal experience and the courage to be oneself, and not just technical perfection.
Carrying out the project “Cinema at the Library: The Younger Generation in Documentaries”, the Oak Grove Library continues the documentary cinema cycle. This time we are extending an invitation to the screening of the film “Don’t Give a Fox” (dir. Kaspar Astrup Schröder), which will take place at 18.00, Tuesday, 17th of September, at the Oak Grove Library‘s Star Hall (Radastų st. 2, 1st floor).

The film tells the story of a Copenhagen girls’ skateboarding team “Don’t Give a Fox” that, upon one of their members suffering a sports injury, embark on a journey together. The girls travel around Denmark in a pink “Wolkswagen” minibus, and seek to understand who they are, and who do they want to become. Different experiences, personalities, and life stories are united thanks to a common passion – skateboarding culture, which becomes a symbol for freedom, amity, and self-expression.
The film reveals the growing process of young people – a time, when one is faced with doubts, social expectations, and the search for their own identity. It discusses friendship, feminist ideas, rebellion against traditional social roles, and the effort of being yourself.
“Don’t Give a Fox” is a coming-of-age story about the youthful courage to be oneself, and the importance of community in a person’s identity development. The film reveals that creativity, movement and amity can become a way to express one’s own voice, and to find one’s place in the world.
Documentary cinema invites to take a look at a young person without stereotypes – through their experiences, emotions, and choices. The aim of the project “Cinema at the Library: The Younger Generation in Documentaries” is to actualise documentary cinema as an important tool for education, one that helps young people develop critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and the ability to reflect on complicated historical and social processes. Documentary cinema becomes not only a way of telling stories, but also a way to converse about that which shapes our personal and collective identity.
We invite the youth, students, and all those interested in cinema and history, to participate in the screening, and to discover documentary cinema as space to think, discuss, and know yourself, together.
