“Cinema doesn’t just invite one to dream. It inspires to change the world” – Nadine Labaki, Lebanese film and music video director, actress, activist, defender of women’s rights.
Carrying out the project “Cinema at the Library: The Younger Generation in Documentaries”, the Oak Grove Library continues the documentary cinema cycle. This time we are extending an invitation to the screening of the film “Gentle Warriors” (dir. Marija Stonytė), which will take place at 18.00 on Thursday, 10th of September, at the Oak Grove Library‘s Star Hall (Radastų st. 2, 1st floor).

The film “Gentle Warriors” is a sensitive and intimate documentary story about three young women, who chose voluntary service in the Lithuanian military. The film shows how in the span of nine months, they face physical and emotional challenges which in the end become an important part of their maturity and self-awareness.
“Gentle Warriors” tells about a young person and their choices. It is considered, what happens to our inner self when we are placed in a structure that requires discipline, strength and adaptability, and the abandonment of one’s comfort zone.

The freedom to choose your own path, self-expression, and the search for one’s own identity are fundamental questions that arise in every young person’s life. The film invites to think: what does it mean to be strong? Does strength always mean tough? Does it require the rough uniform of a soldier?
The aim of the project “Cinema at the Library: The Younger Generation in Documentaries” is to actualise documentary cinema as an important tool for education, one that helps young people develop critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and the ability to reflect on complicated historical and social processes. Documentary cinema becomes not only a way of telling stories, but also a way to converse about that which shapes our personal and collective identity.
We invite the youth, students, and all those interested in cinema and history, to participate in the screening, and to discover documentary cinema as space to think, discuss, and know yourself, together.
