On January 19, 2024, Oak Grove Library returned to its reconstructed, modernized building, situated in a unique location – the Little Oak Grove, next to Kaunas Oak Park, which is the largest oak park in Europe within a city.
Before the modernization works began on the building designed by architect Boleslovas Zabulionis, the project’s implementers spent several years preparing. They conducted research, interviewed specialists in various fields, and consulted partners, visitors, and employees to understand their vision of the dream library. After much effort and dedication, everyone’s dreams were consolidated into a vision of a modernized library interior: a library in a park – a park in a library. Once work started, it took almost three years of collaboration with designers and builders to achieve the desired result.
The floors of the renovated building are organized from the noisiest (1 – Star Hall, Children’s and Youth Space) to the quietest (4 – Gallery, Relaxation Oasis, work and study spaces). The renovated spaces are unified by green plant motifs. Here, you will find areas for leisure, relaxation, work, learning, and, of course, comfortable reading.
By “inviting” the park inside, plants have become an integral part of the building’s concept, with a light color palette enriched with greenery and wood textures.
The library building is accessible to visitors on the first two floors. The ground-floor entrance and refurbished lift are designed for accessibility, accommodating people with disabilities and parents with strollers.
