“To be understood is to belong. I’ve learnt that dialogue is how we bridge the distance between our differences” – states Deeyah Khan, Norwegian film director, producer, and humans’ rights activist.
The Oak Grove Library invites the youth and the city community to the public event of the “Cinema at the Library: The Younger Generation in Documentaries” project – the screening of the documentary film “Conversations on Serious Topics” (dir. Giedrė Beinoriūtė), which will take place at 18.00 on Thursday, 11th of June, at the Oak Grove Library‘s Star Hall (Radastų st. 2, 1st floor).
“Conversations on Serious Topics” (dir. Giedrė Beinoriūtė)
Lithuania, 2013, 1 h 5 min, N–7, with English subtitles.
Today, when mental health and emotional wellbeing are discussed increasingly more often, the topic of the film “Conversations on Serious Topics” is especially relevant. The film shows conversations with children and teenagers, where they openly share their thoughts on love, loneliness, relationships with others, their outlook on the world, and the meaning of life. The film, constructed with minimalistic cinema language, foregoes outside action or decoration, and allows the viewer to concentrate into that which is most important – the voices and experiences of people.
Director Giedrė Beinoriūtė’s film is a tender and authentic story about youth, and the effort to understand oneself in a complicated world. In the film, young people raise existential questions and share experiences, which are often considered too complicated for their age.
Let’s listen to their stories.
The film “Conversations on Serious Topics” was presented in international film festivals and in 2014 was the Lithuanian candidate at the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Film category.
We invite the youth, students, and all those interested in cinema and history, to participate in the screening, and to discover documentary cinema as a space to think, discuss, and know yourself, together.
The project “Cinema at the Library: The Younger Generation in Documentaries” is financed by the Lithuanian Film Centre.
The project’s information sponsors: PB “Kylantis Kaunas”, Ltd. “Diena Media News”, SP “Kas Vyksta”.
