For Children and Youth

Let’s begin our journey with books in the Children and Youth Space. For many years, we welcomed our young visitors in the old library building at K. Donelaičio St. 8 / Lydos St. 2, but as of 2024, we’ve moved and now welcome our readers on the 1st floor at Radastų St. 2.

And although book trends, generations of writers, illustrators, and readers have changed over the years, the need for and relevance of children’s and young adult literature remains. By combining literature, culture, crafts, and new technologies, we invite you to explore new rich and fun experiences together.

Books – for the little ones and the older kids alike

Currently, we have enough publications in the publications section to provide one for almost every resident of Žaliakalnis – around 22 000.

We offer a wide range of fiction, from classic works by Lithuanian and foreign authors to the latest works by contemporary authors. For the more curious, there are thematic publications on nature, animals, history, geography, ethnology, financial literacy, etc.

For those who are still too young to read on their own, we offer a chance to explore some extraordinary books. Some fit into the tiniest hands, while others are so heavy and big you’ll need the help of friends! And let’s not forget all the musical, glowing, interactive books and audiobooks. If you feel overwhelmed, we’re here to help you choose something worthwhile. Plus, each month, we present a new book exhibition to help you decide what to read next.

Games and creative activities for everyone

Take home more than just books – borrow a board game and enjoy a fun evening. If it’s your first time visiting with a group, you’ll receive a detailed introduction to the Children and Youth Space, learn about the librarian’s work, and discover the most interesting and popular books.

In the open creative workshop – Residence of Inventions – children and youth who love to build, create, and program will find plenty to do. Curious inventors can build, sew, use the 3D printer, try out virtual reality, or simply spend time with friends, socialising and playing virtual or board games.

In the Children and Youth Space, we also organise camps for groups, featuring educational activities, creative workshops, readings, book presentations, morning sessions, games, tours, and other activities aimed at physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development. Integrated lessons are organised according to pre-arranged themes with teachers.
