The 30th Anniversary Book Presentation Contest Begins

knygos pristatymo konkursas

For three decades, the Book Presentation Contest has been running, and now it announces the start of its anniversary season. The Association of Lithuania’s County Public Libraries invites readers of all ages to share their literary discoveries by creating an original video clip. This initiative, which has become a national tradition, not only encourages interest in books but also helps to develop modern digital and creative skills.

The aim of the contest is to popularize valuable Lithuanian and foreign literature, encourage society to evaluate information creatively and critically, and present books persuasively through digital technologies. Participants, either individuals or teams of up to five members, are invited to create a high-quality video not exceeding 5 minutes in length. There are no age restrictions, so everyone, from students to seniors, is welcome to take part.

Creativity in this contest has no limits. Participants may create an animation, montage, mini play, monologue, or promotional clip. They are encouraged to experiment, play with forms, and allow their imagination to transform reading into a vivid and engaging narrative.

A jury of well-known professionals in words and images

This year, the participants’ works will be evaluated and the best selected by a distinguished and well-known jury: actor, playwright, and director Aleksandras Špilevojus; translator and comedian Paulius Ambrazevičius; and one of the most popular children’s and young adult authors, Ignė Zarambaitė. The jury will select four main prize winners, while three additional winners will be chosen by Facebook users. In addition to the main prizes, special awards will be granted for the most original work filmed in a library, the most compelling presentation of a young adult book, and the most creative video editing.

Fostering a culture of reading at the core of the contest

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Book Presentation Contest. Organizers are pleased that, throughout three decades, the contest has consistently attracted many participants and remains highly relevant.

“We are proud that over such a long period, the contest has brought together more than several thousand readers and book enthusiasts of all ages. Since the pandemic, the contest has changed its format, traditional in-person book presentations have given way to video clips. This allows readers from all over Lithuania to participate, including those who experience stage fright and prefer to share their impressions of books in video format. The aim of the Book Presentation Contest has always been and remains to nurture a culture of reading, to promote quality and valuable literature, and to encourage society to share their opinions and recommendations about the texts that have fascinated and inspired them,” says Urtė Šulskienė, Head of Cultural Projects at Šiauliai County Povilas Višinskis Public Library and contest coordinator.

All are warmly invited to take part in the contest, to experiment with different forms, and to share their impressions. As every year, participants will be rewarded with a wide variety of prizes—from books and board games to creative and educational sets. The contest is an excellent opportunity not only to share creativity but also to contribute to fostering a culture of reading.

Submission deadline: November 23, 2025. Results will be announced on December 19, 2025.
